1st Annual Tom Dwyer Photography Contest

What says "Sellwood" to you? Is it the people, the shopping, the gardens, the wildlife, the homes? If you enter the 1st annual Tom Dwyer Photography Contest, you can share your personal vision of Sellwood with the rest of the world (or at least the rest of Sellwood). 3 prize packages will be awarded. The first prize winner will have their photograph included in an upcoming Tom Dwyer ad in the Sellwood Bee. Other photo submissions may also be used at our discretion. Good Luck! We're looking forward to your looking around our neighborhood! Here are all the details...

2009 Sellwood Park Concert

The Sellwood Park Concert Series had another wonderful year, and Tom Dwyer Automotive Services was once again proud to play a part. We were there again enjoying the summer evenings from the palatial vantage point of the Tom Dwyer Booth, where we were able to watch another group of budding artists show us what the automotive future looks like. The ultimate grand prize winner this year was Jacob, age 11, who showed us the yellow hover car with the electro-spherical plasma drive. Fabulous prize packages are also on the way to Melina, 7, and Owen, 5. If you're curious about the future, then take a peek. They may not be the cars we'll driving, but they are drawn by the people who'll be creating them.

Recession Buster Soup - Recipe Contest

You already know about Drew Pearson, service advisor and chef extraordinaire, and his amazingly popular "Drew's Kitchen" column.   In this Spring's newsletter Drew has come up with a recipe to stretch your dwindling dollars... "Recession Buster Soup", his own unique variation on Ramen Noodles.

Drew's recipe inspired us to do something a little extra special to try to help you through this recession, so... we're throwing open the doors of Drew's Kitchen to everyone!  Send us your own creative recipe for Ramen Noodles.  Just tell us what you do to spice things up when you just can't force yourself to open another little brick of noodles. We'll publish everyone's entry on our website in July, Drew will use his refined palette to pick the best, and best of all...

the winner gets $100 cash!

Here's the rules:

  • Recipes must include at least one package of Ramen Noodles (or non-brand-name equivalent) to qualify.  Go crazy from there.
  • No purchase is necessary to enter, and you don't have to be a client of Tom Dwyer Automotive Services either.  On the other hand, if you want to benefit from our impeccable automotive service this would be a great opportunity.
  • Sorry guys, but the employees (or the relatives of employees) of Tom Dwyer Automotive Services aren't eligible.
  • Enter by sending an email with your recipe to TomDwyer@TomDwyer.com, or by sending an old-fashioned letter to:
    • Recession Buster Contest
    • Tom Dwyer Automotive Services
    • 530 SE Tenino Street
    • Portland, OR, 97202
  • You don't have to send both email and hardcopy; either one will do.
  • Entries must be received in our office by June 1, 2009.  We aren't responsible if your entry doesn't reach us, although you will have our sympathies.
  • Any recipes sent can be used or shared with others any way we can think of, so don't send us your secret recipe unless you are willing to share it.
  • Winner will be determined solely at the discretion of Drew Pearson, whose judgment is final and shall not be questioned.
  • Winners will be announced on our website, www.TomDwyer.com, on or about July 1, 2009

Why Is 350 The Most Important Number On The Planet?

Because the most recent science tells us that unless we can reduce the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to 3 5 0 parts per million, we’re done! The red line for humans is 3 5 0. Go to www.350.org and learn about this worldwide 350 movement.”

Well, the Bash turned out to be a spectacular evening. Everyone seemed to have a pretty good time, and oh, yeah... BARACK OBAMA WAS ELECTED PRESIDENT! WHOO HOOO! Time to sing Kumbaya, and if you were in the streets on Tuesday night you might have even seen a few of the unicorns and butterflies beginning to come out. Thank you to everyone who came, and our apologies to anyone who was squeezed out by the crowds. If you weren't able to make it, maybe you can be there in 2012 for the ReElection Bash, when we'll be... well, let's not get ahead of ourselves.

In the meantime we'll be posting any party-related stuff we can think of to help you re-live this historic night with us, and if you have any pictures or anything else you’d like us to post, send it to tom@tomdwyer.com so we can put that up too. USA! USA! USA! USA! USA! USA!”

You may have heard about the upcoming election. On November 4th, (if all goes well) we find out whether the next four years will be lived in an earthly paradise of unicorns, butterflies, and happy people singing Kumbaya, or in a murky Orwellian hell where we huddle around burning oil drums to stay warm and live in leaky cardboard boxes with inflated sub-prime mortgages. The choice is up to us, but no matter which way it goes, we hope you join us for food, fun, and political geekery at the Tom Dwyer Election Night Bash! Clicking the invite will take you to all the details. Check back often, because new things might be added at any time!

We've been proud sponsors of the summer Sellwood Concert in the Park series for several years, but this year was our first to actually have a booth at the event. It was great to get out, meet more of our neighbors, and enjoy the evening and music, but one of the best parts for us was our "Car of the Future" coloring contest. Congratulations to our winners, Sarah, Elena, Jonah, Caitlyn, and Elena! You can click the link to see the whole range of entries from nuclear-powered hovercrafts to bicycles, as well as some cool pictures from the concert. We hope to see you and your picnic basket next year!
The fine folks at Homeland Security took time from rifling through underwear at the airport to write a letter to KPOJ radio. Why, you ask? Let's just say there was some "unpleasantness" concerning the George Bush Countdown Clocks that Tom Dwyer sent to Thom Hartmann. Thom (the radio one) read the letter on the air during his show. Clicking the link on the left will not only take you to the audio from the show and a copy of the letter, but will automatically register you for the National No-Fly List AND the Terrorist Watch List! Just a little extra service from our friends at the NSA.
At Tom Dwyer Automotive Services, Inc., we act as a responsible member of the community and are committed to expanding our environmentally-conscious practices. As an Eco-Certified Carbon Neutral business, we make a difference by offsetting all of our carbon emissions through the purchase of Green Tags (Green-e certified renewable energy certificates). We continue to lead the industry as an Eco-Logical Business.
